There were a lot of firsts served up at this year's U.S. Open tennis championship when Bianca Andreescu became the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title by beating Serena Williams.

With grit and determination, Andreescu became the first woman to win the title in her debut at the U.S. Open, and at 19, is the first player born in the 2000s to win a Grand Slam.

How did she do it? When you read about the tennis phenom, you realize it's a perfect marriage of positive visualization and dedicated effort. Andreescu is known for meditating and visualizing how she can beat her opponents. As a youngster, she was even known to write "I won" on her hand before a match. That, combined with hard work, commitment and perseverance, became her recipe for success.

The mindsets of pro-athletes translate well to the mindsets of successful investors. Think ingredients like setting and visualizing goals, continual learning and finding the resources and support to push us forward.
