
It's easy to put money into your RBC Direct Investing account. Just follow the steps below to transfer cash, convert RBC Rewards® points, set up pre-authorized contributions or even use cheques to fund your account and start investing.
Transfer cash from RBC Online Banking in real time
If you bank online with RBC Royal Bank you can use the same login you use for banking to access your account(s) at RBC Direct Investing.
Conveniently transfer funds to your account(s) from wherever you are!
RBC Online Banking:
On your Account Summary page, select Pay Bills & Transfer Funds. From the left menu, select Transfer to Direct Investing or InvestEase and follow the steps to move funds.
Can’t see your investment accounts on your online banking Account Summary page?
- On your RBC online banking Account Summary page, go to the My Services box on the bottom right. Select “Link Other Accounts” and choose RBC Direct Investing.
RBC Direct Investing site
- Go to Transfer Cash & Foreign Exchange under My Portfolio on the site menu
- Select your RBC Royal Bank chequing or savings account in the “From Account” field
- Select your RBC Direct Investing account in the “To Account” field
- Enter the amount you wish to transfer in the “Amount” field
- Enter your phone number in the “Contact Phone” field
- Select "Continue" and then "Confirm" on the next page
RBC Mobile1 app
- Open or download the app
- Select RBC Direct Investing when you sign in.
- From the More menu, select Transfer Funds and follow the steps to your account.

Transfer from another financial institution
- If you bank online somewhere other than RBC, simply add RBC Direct Investing as a bill payee to transfer funds into your account – just like you would to pay an online bill.

Write a cheque
The fastest way to deposit funds by cheque is to use the RBC Mobile1 app.
If you bank online with RBC Royal Bank and have linked your banking and RBC Direct Investing accounts, simply open or download the app, then from the “Move Money” menu select “Deposit a Cheque.” Follow the steps on-screen to take a picture of your cheque and deposit it into the RBC Royal Bank account you choose. You can then switch to RBC Direct Investing on the RBC Mobile app to transfer the funds to your RBC Direct Investing account.

Fund transfers to your RBC Direct Investing account from an RBC Royal Bank account will be processed in real-time for cash investment, margin, RRSP and TFSA accounts between the hours of 4:30 am and 7:54 pm. Transfers completed outside of those hours will be processed on the next business day. Some conditions apply.
The RBC Rewards program is offered by the Royal Bank of Canada. The use of RBC Rewards points is subject to the RBC Rewards Terms & Conditions. You cannot earn RBC Rewards points through RBC Direct Investing (RBC DI). You may only use your points through RBC DI to: (1) pay for trade commissions on your eligible RBC DI accounts; or (2) transfer points to cash contributions to your eligible RBC DI accounts. It is your responsibility to make sure you have sufficient contribution room within your registered plan when transferring points to cash contributions to your registered accounts and/or when you use your RBC Rewards points to pay for trade commissions on a registered account. The Canada Revenue Agency may apply tax penalties for over-contributions. RBC Direct Investing is not responsible for any such penalties.
