Here are the options for transferring assets into an RBC Direct Investing account:

  • Transfer as cash: you can send any amount of cash from another financial institution to your RBC Direct Investing account(s). You can also ask your financial institution to sell some or all of your assets and transfer the money to your account(s). Using this method, there may be charges or trading fees associated with the transferring out institution.
  • Transfer in-kind:  this simply means transferring some or all of your investments to your RBC Direct Investing account(s) "as-is.”  Only “like” accounts can be transferred into one another. For example, RRSP to RRSP, TFSA to TFSA, etc. An in-kind transfer is one of the easiest ways to move an account and keep your existing investments exactly the way they are. There is no selling or buying involved, and RBC Direct Investing receives your investments at the market value on the date we receive them.
  • Take advantage of a possible reimbursement of fees! Transfer $15,000 or more and we’ll reimburse you up to $200 for fees charged by your other institution1. We do not charge a fee to transfer in your account.

Here’s How it Works
