Account services

Self-directed investing means you’re in control of deciding how much and how often to invest, managing your dividends and other components of your investments and much more. It’s a big responsibility but there are many resources available to help you reach your goals.

RBC Direct Investing’s account services offer an effective way to automate your investment decisions so your money continues to work hard while you stay on top of other things that matter.

Pre-authorized contribution plan

Set up a pre-authorized contribution (PAC) plan and enjoy the convenience of regular contributions. Simply choose how often you want to contribute (weekly, semi-monthly, monthly or quarterly) and we’ll automatically transfer funds from your chequing or savings bank account into your RBC Direct Investing accounts. Done!

Bonus: If you have a pre-authorized contribution plan totalling $100 per month ($300 per quarter) or more across all of your RBC Direct Investing accounts, your quarterly maintenance fee will be waived. That’s a savings of $25 per quarter! This is just one of many ways you can have the maintenance fee waived. For more details visit the Commissions and Fees.

To set up a pre-authorized contribution plan, go to Pre-Authorized Contributions under My Portfolio and get started. Make sure you have an RBC Royal Bank chequing or savings account linked to your RBC Direct Investing account.

To set up a PAC for your RBC Direct investing RRSP, TFSA or an RESP with a chequing or savings account held outside of RBC Royal Bank, download and complete the Pre-Authorized Contribution form along with a void cheque and send the documents to the address on the form.

Dividend reinvestment plan

Are you earning regular dividends from your investments? RBC Direct Investing can immediately reinvest your earnings by purchasing shares on your behalf in the same companies. Our dividend reinvestment plan (DRIP) comes with no fees or commissions. Set it up and know that your money is working for you automatically. DRIPs also let you take advantage of dollar cost averaging.

Most of the dividend-paying securities listed in the S&P/TSX composite index and the S&P 500 are eligible for this plan. View the current list of eligible securities.

To sign up for a dividend reinvestment plan, call us at 1-800-769-2560.

Treasury Bill rollover

Don’t let your matured Treasury bills sit idle until you find time to reinvest them. Keep your money hard at work by signing up for a Treasury bill rollover, which automatically purchases new Treasury bills when they mature.

You can choose to roll over the original par value or use the par value at maturity as the new amount to reinvest.

To sign up for Treasury bill rollover, download and complete the Treasury Bill Rollover form and send it to the address on the form.

Automatic funds transfer

Automatically transfer cash on a monthly basis from your RBC Direct Investing Investment account to your chequing or savings account at any Canadian financial institution.

Choose to transfer a fixed amount or your total interest and dividends for the month. Set it up once and let RBC Direct Investing take care of it on an ongoing basis.

To sign up for an automatic funds transfer, complete the Automatic Funds Transfer form and submit it online.
